DJ chile is a scratch DJ, Music producer, and community musician from Hull, England. Chile has a BA Hons first class degree in Creative Music Technology from Hull University. In 2011, chile gained underground acknowledgement within the scratch community after winning the WTK World Scratch Freestyle battle, an online scratch competition which attracted over 130 contestants from around the world. In 2013, chile also won the IDA online scratch battle at national level, although because of a repetitive strain injury he was unable to represent the UK at world level. Toward the end of 2013, chile released his debut EP entitled ‘Circular Causality’ on bandcamp. As an educator, chile is very active on youtube as a creator of scratch tutorial videos. He has covered a diverse range of topics not commonly discussed, including phase shift techniques, cross rhythm patterns, and heuristic methods for improvisation. For the past 3 years, chile has also been involved in various community youth projects around Hull and the surrounding area. He works with a variety of age groups and backgrounds as a music facilitator covering a range of instruments including scratching, piano and drumming.
